The Big Spoon

I will be the big spoon
When you need me to.

I will pick the acne from your back,
And pluck your eyebrows
(But never tell anybody.)

I will pick you up
When you don’t want to drive.
Sometimes I won’t even complain.

I will wake you up for church on Sundays,
Calling a dozen times
To rouse you from your dreams,
And wait
While you pull on a t-shirt
And forget to brush your teeth.

I will pray for you
When I don’t know how to help you,
And also when I do.
And I will ask God to allow us to grow old together.

I will wear that shirt
That I don’t really care for, but you picked out
So I love it.

I’ll even shave my legs.

And when I am the big spoon,
I will take on the world for you
So I can worry
And you can sleep.
